Time of showing: 6:30pm
Location: Regent Mall Empire Theatres, showing on screen 3 (which is the largest screen)
Attendance: I'd say the theatre was 80% full
Snacks: None (I'm not much of a theatre snacker)
Trailers:
Into the Blue: Nice Jessica Alba eye-candy, not a fan of Paul Walker though; most likely a rental
Serenity: Never watched Firefly when it was on, but this movie looks awesome. Definitely a must-see in theatres
Fantastic 4: Everytime I see a trailer for this movie I get more excited to see it. I hope it doesn't royally suck.
Charlie and The Chocolate Factory: No desire to see this in theatres, even though Johnny Depp and Tim Burton are faves of mine.
Dukes of Hazzard: Still not sold on this movie. Probably a rental. But Jessica Simpson in that red bikini...whoa.
The Movie:
Being a pretty big fan of The Bat, I could almost feel the disappointment coming on, due to seeing all of the positive reviews and due to my hopes and dreams that this would be THE Batman film. My expectations were high, which can backfire, but when the movie was over the first thought that came to my mind was "When am I seeing this again?" I would have easily gone out and paid to see the show directly after the one I saw. It was that good. The movie blew away my expectations, and this is THE Batman flick.
One of the best things about the movie is that they told the story of how he came to be. His journey, his training, his fears, and the long road he took to become Batman. They didn't just make some petty thief rob some family and then voila, hello Batman.
Both villians were well-played and well-cast in my opinion. I really enjoyed Cillian Murphy's performance. The Scarecrow mask was pretty creepy too.
On to the action and fight scenes. The fight scenes are very jumbled and it's hard to tell exactly what's happening, which is mildly disappointing, but I don't think it takes away from the movie as a whole. There are some nice explosions and a nice Batmobile scene (by the way "The Tumbler" isn't as bad as people think it is. Functionality is the key), but I won't give too much of it away.
Wrapping up, I'm incredibly pleased with the rebirth of The Bat. The sequel and the villian for the sequel was set up nicely at the end of the movie, which makes me want the sequel now. I can wait though. I still need to see this one a few more times.
Overall: A
